“Yung lugar na ‘to para siyang isang malaking mood board,” observes fashion photographer Cenon Norial III about Manila in Goethe Institut’s “180 Seconds City.” True to its name, #180sec paints a picture of a select city through the eyes of a local.
Directed by Kiri Dalena and produced by Sine Tres Marias, #180sec Manila begins with frames exposing the seemingly mundane life in the city and proceeds with following Cenon and his partner Mav Bernardo as they explore the local fashion and club scene. “Idol!” a bystander teases them as they walk the streets in their high-fashion garb, but the two proceed smilingly. After all, as Cenon says, “Responsibility ko na maipakita ko yung style ko kahit hindi ako nagta-trabaho.”
And with understanding, he concludes, “Mahirap yung Pilipinas, pero maganda talaga siya, kahit madumi, kahit magulo... inspiring.”
