Commonwealth: For The Greater Good Opens in Manila

Photos by Marvin Conanan

A few weeks ago, a streetwear retail label that hails from Virginia, U.S. has just opened its doors to the public. Commonwealth has two stores in the U.S. that offers streetwear staples, sought-after sneakers and lifestyle products for the modern man. And as for their third store, they looked to establish it here in the country to bring that same vibe, inspiration and culture to Filipinos. Commonwealth: For The Greater Good is now open in SM Aura, Bonifacio Global City. The store takes a minimalist approach in retail design with white walls accented with concrete and clean light wood. With products from Garbstore, Converse x COMME des GARÇONS, Diadora, Asics, Adidas, Dime, Anti-Social Club, Nike, Vans, Brain Dead, etc., Commonwealth is definitely bringing something new to the table. We are excited to see what else they are bringing here in the country, as one of the people from the team who brought the store here told us, "this is just the start".

Stories of the Sea by Aidx Paredes

Aidx Paredes comes out with another photo series, "Stories of the Sea," which is a collection of nine beautiful photos of the sea. The said series is a follow-up to two exhibits of Aidx, "We Are Water" and "Bodies and Water" -- the former was an exhibit of 15 pieces in Abreeza Ayala Mall last March, while Bodies and Water was a 30+ page self-publish photobook released in Thousandfold's Foto Semana Manila, and later exhibited in Malaysia. All three works circle around a common theme, and that is his travels to the sea.

Stories of the Sea was released under Photowall, a Swedish printing company, where each photo is printed in canvas and sold internationally with a DIY steel frame. Aidx Paredes is, so far, the only Filipino artist in Photowall's roster. You can check out his collection through this link.

The Nike Mag is Back to The Future

If you followed the Back to The Future movie trilogy, the future has arrived. Aside from the DeLorean and the hoverboard, the Nike Mag was one of the most iconic items from the series. Almost 30 years after first being spotted on screen, the Nike Mag is back for another run, this time complete with its self-lacing abilities. Michael J. Fox already has his, but the rest of the world will have to wait until spring of next year to score a pair. To the dismay of many collectors, the shoes will once again be released only via auction, with proceeds going to Parkinson's research. If you're planning on getting a pair, better save your money now.

The Village Barber and Supply Shop

Photos by Marvin Conanan

In the rise of the "refined" modern gentleman, comes the growing presence of lifestyle grooming places and barbershops. And one that we have recently stumbled upon is the compact yet very attractive barbershop, The Village Barber and Supply Shop. It is made by the guys behind Back Alley Barbershop, so don't be surprised if they have great barbering service as well. In addition, The Village Barber is well lit via natural light coming in from their huge windows overlooking a golf course. It provides a very relaxing weekend brunch vibe or an inspiring view of a night at the city, both settings are perfect while drinking craft beer, specialty coffee or an artisanal bourbon, all available at the shop. While the store is a little short of capable to accommodate a lot of patrons at once, the wait for your turn is made experiential through the drinks and the available prints and publications ready for anyone who wants to read about culture, art, lifestyle, business and the like. The Village Barber and Supply Shop is located at the second floor of the Forbestown Center at Bonifacio Global City.

Stick Figgas - Lamanloob (Music Video)

Hip hop group Stick Figgas revs up the hype for their second album titled "Realistick". The project is their first under their current full band setup. To set the tone, the whole crew took on acting roles for the music video of "Lamanloob". The genesis of this song is when the late Francis M challenged the duo of Loonie and Ron Henley to write a piece about the battle between the heart and the mind. Then it materialized into an actual track which is actually a favorite among most of the band's listeners. Which means now is just the right time for the song to receive the visual treatment. The result is an enactment of the kinds of crazy that may result with the clash between one's thoughts and desires.

Hypebeast Issue 11: The Restoration Issue

 Photos by Marvin Conanan

The Hypebeast Magazine has received a total layout revamped for their 11th Issue. For starters, they have traded glossy for book (matte) paper to get that more organic vibe. In addition to changes in material, Hypebeast also changed their layout design direction to a less minimalist and structured one. However, this change gives them a more unique take for their independent magazine. For Issue 11 dubbed as The Restoration Issue, they have interviews of Hiroki Nakamura, Rick Owens, Dr. Romanelli, Nick Wooster and more. Plus features and editorials of Filson, Visvim and Vintage Rolex to name a few. Another new inclusion in the magazine is their Guide section where they focused on featuring places and spaces in Downtown LA. This newly revamped Hypebeast Magazine issue is now available in the Secret Service store in Ronac Art Center, San Juan.
