We know how we become very proud when we hear of fellow Filipinos making it big outside the country. There is definitely nothing wrong with it, but the matter of the fact is, most miss that for a person to be successful he/she conquers numerous obstacles and works very hard for it first. This is where they need us most on top of the support people give them when they've reached their goals already. We've heard thousands of stories of how Filipinos are very talented and special, this is nothing new. Regina De Vera is also very talented and special, but what separates her from the pack is her determination and vision to be greater than what she already is. We are an advocate of pursuing one's passion, and Regina is the perfect example. She gambled all her savings to audition for The Juilliard School and has been accepted in their Drama Division. Amongst 1,900 applicants around the world, she was chosen with 17 other individuals to be admitted in the program. In addition, she was also granted by The Juilliard School with a Total Financial Aid of $28,000 to help for her tuition fee.
This is where our fellow Filipino needs our help, a topnotch actress that aims to develop and refine her craft even more. The Total Financial Aid helps her a lot but is not enough to support her education. This is why she's running the campaign #GoFundRegina, a reach for help to make her dreams and goals come true. See below to know more about the campaign and Regina De Vera, or visit her running campaign here to donate.
"I am Regina De Vera, a BFA Theater Arts graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University and currently working as a resident actor of the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company from the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Early this year I gambled my childhood savings to fly to New York City to audition for The Juilliard School. After an intensive audition process, I have been accepted to the Drama Division of The Juilliard School for its four (4) year Masters of Fine Arts in Acting program beginning this fall 2015-2016. I am part of 18 people admitted to the program after an initial pool of 1,900 applicants all over the world.
This opportunity comes rarely in the lifetime of an artist especially for someone born and raised in the Philippines. I am determined to pursue this path and hopefully make my country proud.
The Juilliard School has awarded me Total Financial Aid amounting to $28,000. However, the Total Cost of Attendance to the school (including housing, supplies, insurance, etc.) has amounted to $61,290. In order for me to qualify for a Student Visa, I would need to show documented proof of funding amounting $33,290 – which is approximately P1.5M. This is due before June 15, 2015. The actual bill for the first semester is due on August 10, 2015.
In this regard I need your help. Any amount that you contribute will matter. If you could also help by sharing my story, I would greatly appreciate it.
Below is the breakdown of the Total Cost of Attendance for the first year of studies at The Juilliard School:
Tuition and Fees: $39,720
Residence Hall: $14,790
Books, Supplies, Personal: $3,440
Transportation (Local): $496
Transportation (Out of Town): $1,094
Supplemental Insurance: $1,500
Orientation Fee: $250
Budget Total: $61,290
--
Scholarship Award: $26,000
Work-Study Estimate: $2,000
Total Aid: $28,000
