Dandoy Tongco, Philippine Longboarding Community's Finest

There are two types of people: a) those who never stop until they reach their goals, and b) those who never stop at all. Dandoy Tongco, the 2016 September Rush Longboarding Competition champion (Masters’ division), is one of the latter. Before beating out title-holder and fellow Cebuano Tito Sumicad last September 3-4, 2016 at Park Balakayo, General Santos City, Dandoy was already making a name for himself in the world of action sports through his efforts towards the growth of skating communities in the provinces. This eventually caught the attention of DC, an international action sports brand, and prompted them to support him and his fellow longboarders: Arjun Jimenez, Ering Ricablanca, Rico Ricablanca, Epos Falcone, and Bryan Tongco. It wasn’t long before DC thought that it’s time to introduce him, and the thriving longboarding community and culture in the country, to the rest of the world. In 2013, DC brought him to Spain to be a part of a longboarding documentary produced by Canadian longboarding champion Patrick Switzer. His passion and undeniable skills remained to be his ticket to other places after that.

Now, even after winning the most prestigious longboarding event in the country (which is also recognized worldwide), Dandoy keeps on moving. He is helping change the lives of those who share the same passion and interest through the Mobile Skate School program that he established in Cebu, Dumaguete, Leyte, Surigao del Sur, and Surigao del Norte. The program is making a significant impact on these local communities through well-planned activities that focus primarily on environmental consciousness and physical well-being.

Considering everything that he has done and everything that he’s yet to do, Dandoy Tongco must rightfully be considered not only as an athlete but as an inspiration and a force to be reckoned with.
