Surf’s up! Philippines’ top five
surfers represented the country in the latest Asian Surfing Championship Tour –
Quiksilver Indo Challenge #1. Our surfers broke waves along with other
international athletes last June 20-21, 2015. In our roster were Piso Alcala recent champion
of Vans Cloud 9 2015 in Siargao, Nemia Alciso, Angielene Alipayo, Nilbie Blancada
and Nildie Blancada-Rietenbach. 120+ surfers from various countries such as
Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand came to
compete. There were four division titles up for grabs, the Mens Open, Womens
Open, Junior Boys and Junior Girls. The competition itself was held in Echo
Beach Canggu, Bali where they got two full days of great waves. And Philippines’ representatives are actually
bringing home the bacon! Roxy Philippines Rider, Nilbie Blancada, bagged the “Womens
Champion Quiksilver Canggu Challenge” title. Her sister Nildie Blancada-Rietenbach, Queen of Cloud 9, still got it and came in 4th place.
