Escolta St. used to be one of the premiere commercial districts in the early times of Manila, just before the dawn of the development of ricefields and swamps we now call the Makati Business District. Located in the heart of Binondo, early entrepreneurs set up shop here, and you can find everything from food, supplies, clothing and the like, until the commercial spots eventually moved to Makati and the Fort. 98B Collaboratory, a multidisciplinary design collective, envisions to open up Escolta again through a Saturday Market. People can bring their goods and sell them here and spot some good finds too. If you're looking for an alternative to your usual Saturdays, this is worth checking out. Saturday Market at Escolta starts today, March 9 from 9AM-5PM.
