Apolis' Manila version of the City Series Market Bags arrives at Tenant

Global lifestyle brand Apolis and their city series market bags gets the Manila treatment. The jute bags are exclusively made on demand and features various cities around the world onto its canvas. What's even more special about these bags is that they are handcrafted by a women's cooperative in Bangladesh with an advocacy of helping women put up stable businesses of their own or setting up sufficient college funds for their kids.

Local contemporary lifestyle shop Tenant gets first dibs on the totes which feature the words, "Next Stop Manila" in the front and origin details of the bag in the back, done in true Apolis fashion. We highly suggest getting this for your mom if you haven't done your Mother's Day shopping yet. Heck, get one for yourself even. It looks like the picture-perfect companion for grocery trips or those errand runs.

Ron Henley on how to dwell in solitude with his new song Ulila (Music Video)

For years, hip hop artists have regularly utilized the space they are provided with to go through lengths just to fully unload what they wish to express. From the regular two-verse songs to tracks topping a hundred lines or more, rappers are always up to the task. Ron Henley clocks three verses in his latest single titled "Ulila". To fully submerge his listeners, he released this one via a music video. The result are scenes that sufficiently accompany the gloomy images that Ron's words have painted. Klumcee's music definitely add to the atmosphere, aiding Ron's sketch of loneliness that will definitely come in hand on your times of sorrow. This music video is directed and edited by Ken Yamaguchi, and released under Artifice Records.

Heavyhands Barbershop by Mak Azores and Ez Abinal

Photos from Bespoke Man

Two out of the three founders of Slick Barbers Co., Mak Azores and Ez Abinal, have bade farewell to the collective to build Heavyhands Barbershop -- which offers a break from the usual trendy barbershop branding that we often see. It's straightforward and yet projects its own unique charm with the artworks and glass windows that add character to the place. Owners Mak and Ez however promise that, in spite of the brand's divergence from the common, clients can still expect the same quality of classic haircuts. From fades to pompadours, you name it. The barbershop started operating last March and requires that clients set an appointment beforehand. You can set an appointment here.

Heavyhands Barbershop is found in the space previously occupied by streetwear shop Red Trend where Slick Barbers Co. regularly hold their pop-ups. The shop is open from 1pm to 9pm on Tuesdays until Fridays, and 11am to 6pm during weekends.

Renan Pacson drops Designer Streetwear Collection, unit 731

Renan Pacson drops his fall/winter 2016 collection "unit 731. The light is shone on his army-palette cotton fleece hoodies and camouflage print pullovers, but the entire collection is a mix of wearable staples and heavy outerwear. Even in the details of streetwear that is meant to be rugged, Renan did not forget to be meticulous: some pieces like his long sleeved tees don fingerless gloves made of mesh and stretch cotton. He also added pieces that are rare to find in local stores: padded bombers, parkas, and other waterproof nylon pieces that are made as good they are designed.

Photos by Sundae Cruz

While dark and edgy, Renan’s newest collection is a refreshing double-punch. His pieces add a flavor of street in the local fashion landscape. His designer cred and craftsmanship lends a luxurious vibe to the streetwear scene. Renan Pacson’s fall-winter collection unit 731 is refined streetwear that is the epitome of high design meets durability.

Purveyr Producer Project: John Pope

Far away from pop charts, or even the so-called "underground" most people know, our next featured producer goes deep into the experimental, dance/club & avant-garde realm. "Lately I've been more into (and influenced by) very aggressive, non-4x4 club tracks, which makes up the first half of the mix. The second half goes deeper into a more avant-garde/experimental territory—you know, also my favorite. I guess this is where I am at now influence-wise, which is very exciting!" as John Pope explains the background for this mixtape. It's no surprise though, as the first Filipino producer who was invited to be part of Red Bull Music Academy in Paris in 2015, we expect immense diversity with the music he likes. He previously described his music, "electronic textural maximalism" and it seems like it will just get even more complex from there. No complains here however, we are enjoying the ride, and as far as we're concerned, we admire and are very interested with distinct influences, tastes and preferences.

You can see and hear more from John Pope here:
And to download this mixtape, please visit our Mixcrate account.

We are open for suggestions and applications for the Purveyr Producer Project. Send an email to marvin@purveyr.com if you're interested. We're looking forward to hear from you.

A Showcase of Local Street Art Talent at the Meeting of Styles Philippines 2016

In it's third year, and the biggest it has ever been, Meeting of Styles Philippines 2016 ended in a high note. It elevated graffiti in another level, of acceptance and understanding. In the 2-day event the focus was just to create, with a lineup of amazing international and local graffiti artists, nothing less was expected. What was once a rebellious act has now become a celebrated arm of art, and probably one of the most grounded. We just hope this continues on, because with talent like these, we think it'll be no time until street art becomes as established as any other art styles here in the country. Peep the works through the photos below, and tell us if that's not something we should be proud about. More photos and info at the Meeting of Styles Philippines 2016 Facebook page.
