Threedown wakes from hiatus with their March 2016 Collection

Heavily rooted in graffiti, skateboarding, BMX, and hip hop, Threedown is a well-known brand for those who are into our local streetwear scene. In terms of merchandise production, they've been on hiatus for almost a year, tinkering to come up with a new take on their apparel. Now they are back, unleashing two shirts for their March 2016 Collection. Their Logo tee rendered in a black shirt bears a Threedown logo above the line "Est. 2009". A reminder that the brand has been at it for years. They definitely clocked in tons of work, from blog posts, events, to skate and bmx videos, and other audio-visual features that has helped their followers gain more insight on our local street culture. Their second offering is the Go For Broke shirt. Printed on a white tee is an image of a twenty-peso bill cut in half, along with the line "Go For Broke". Which tells us enough about Threedown's relentless attitude despite all the odds. Check out their facebook page for all the purchase details.

Diego Castillo talks about his Passion for Vinyls on Satchmi Stories

Photos by MV Isip

If there is one person to learn about vinyl records from, it's got to be Diego Castillo. In this interview feature by Satchmi, one would see that before being a musician, a DJ, a radio host, and part-owner of burger joint Sweet Ecstasy, Diego is first a vinyl junkie who, as he spills, started his collection when he was still a kid in 1995. He further shared his anecdotes about the records throughout the dialogue --- how he discovered his love for the medium, why he preferred it over others, the experience and the story of each piece, his favorites, criteria when looking around for new ones to add to his already massive collection, and the memorable things that happened through his pursuit. By the end of the conversation, he left an insight on choosing the kind of music to love, which is the biggest takeaway from this interview. To know what it is, click here for his interview with Satchmi.

The Beauty of the Philippines through the Wow Tapes

If you think you love the Philippines enough already, think twice and watch this short documentary to find what you could love more about this country of spectacular landscapes, rich culture and tradition, amazing food, and the "warmest people". Prepare to be left in awe as filmmaker Fabio Reitano shows you around the Philippines in just three minutes -- from the remote villages in Northern Luzon, the busy roads of the metropolitan cities Manila and Cebu, to the pristine beaches of Palawan, volcanoes in Mindoro and Albay, to Samar and Leyte, and the waterfalls of Mindanao. One would not help but be amazed by the way movements -- both of humans and in nature -- are captured in the right moments, patched into the video at the right spots, and set against music that is as dramatic as the images filmed. If there is one thing to be said about it, however, it would be that this documentary is what comes out of the marriage of sheer beauty and incredible skill.

Your Favorite Comfort Food Delivered Right at Your Doorstep

Picture this. You're home alone and you're stomach starts to grumble, what do you do? There's no food in the fridge, you don't know how to drive, and the nearest store is nowhere near walking distance. You start to get hangry (you know, irritable as a result of hunger) so you result to your favorite fastfood chain for food delivery. But then, you go on Instagram, and you see your friends posting about how good their dinner is or how photogenic the dishes are from their favorite restaurants -- food porn, basically. Now, you start craving and fastfood just wouldn't do, so you just wish there was a way to have the same thing at the comfort of your own home. Well, now you can have your favorite roast chicken from SeƱor Pollo, complete with spicy rice, fried plantains or whatever side you want, or those out-of-this-world hotdogs and burgers from Lazy Bastard where they add bacon to everything, at home on your bed while binge-watching missed television shows. There's also Backyard Kitchen and Wingman, which are just some of the restaurants I particularly love that I can now enjoy with a simple use of an app. Kanguru lets you order your favorite food with just a tap of a finger. Too bad they only deliver to Makati and Taguig, but no worries, they're already developing ways to get to other areas in the metro.

Saucony partners with Toshikazu Nozaka for the Special Edition Tokyo Pack

Premium running lifestyle footwear brand, Saucony has recently launched the Special Edition Tokyo Pack which includes the silhouettes; Kinvara 7 and DXN Trainers. The brand partnered with Japanese artist Toshikazu Nozaka who was a pro-skateboarder in the early 90's. He is known for his great skill and knowledge with Japanese culture and traditional tattoo. Saucony collaborated with him to express Japanese heritage, and to specifically commemorate the Tokyo Marathon. He fully conveyed those messages by having cherry blossoms in black, white and silver as the primary design. Both models share the same influences in design but in different approaches. The Tokyo Kinvara 7 shows a clearer view of the "Sakura" or the cherry blossom flowers at the back accenting the end of a sleek swift-looking overall design. While the Tokyo DXN Trainers explores Toshikazu's tattooing roots more with a design inspired by Japanese prints in the early 1800s. The pattern is evenly distributed around the shoes, juxtaposed on black suede and silver accents. The cherry blossom design is incorporated in its insoles. The Saucony Special Edition Tokyo Pack is now available in Complex Lifestyle Store, at their brick and mortar in Glorietta 3 and their online store.

Calix at it again with his new track The Peon Hour

Hip hop artist Calix is a man that remains anonymous to almost all local heads. His personal facebook account and page are filled with photos depriving any clue of his physical appearance. But his presence in the scene is a different story. His music is a breathe of fresh air to local trap music. With instrumentals that make your head bump and your body groove, he spits lines that depict the current status quo. Know for yourself with his latest song The Peon Hour. This time, he focuses on the people left with no choice but to toil hard just to put food on the table and pay for basic necessities. He then goes for a tongue-lashing of some powerful personalities, his anger echoing the cry of the masses that he stand for. If you dig his songs, then better stay tuned because this track is included in his upcoming project titled Breakout Satirist.
