Purveyr Instagramer: John Aledia

At first glance, one will get the impression that John is just another landscape or portrait photographer, and he is actually. But what separates him from the pack is his distinct style that results to hauntingly beautiful photos -- Rather than going for the white and clean look that most Instagram enthusiasts enjoy, he explores a deeper and darker one while experimenting with layers and textures. His photos evoke a deep sense of emotion brought about by added filter, which creates the right atmosphere for that he wishes to express.

"I’m John Renzo Aledia, goes by the name @johnaledja on Instagram. I’m 19 years old and currently studying Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising Arts in Far Eastern University. My love for photography goes deeper and deeper as time goes by. I love listening to music so much that it reflects to the captions I write for my photos."

How long have you been using Instagram and what made you decide to give more effort in it?
I remember asking my mom to buy any kind of smart phone for me as long as Instagram works in it. It was early 2014 when I started using the app. I, then, took Instagram seriously after I became a suggested user later that year.

How would you describe your approach (style) to photography?
I don’t think I have my own style yet. As long as I find something interesting, I will definitely take a photo of it as my subject. Most of my photos used to be dark and unsaturated. Now that I'm getting away from that theme, I switch to brighter ones. I love playing the tones. Consistency has always been my struggle.

What are your usual subjects?
Street was my first love. Landscape is my current love. Call me a player, I don't care, but right now I’m courting fashion.

What makes for a good Instagram shot?
When you let people see your perspective, but technically speaking, it’s all about the composition and lighting.

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve done for an Instagram photo?
Standing in the middle of a busy street, lying on the floor, shooting even if it’s raining (without an umbrella) which I think is normal #forthegram?

Are your photos on Instagram solely taken from your phone, or do you use other devices, such as SLRs, digital cameras, etc?
Late last year when I had my very first DSLR camera, I refrain from using my Android phone’s camera. But every time I use my phone camera, the photo quality still amazes me. Although, I don’t post it anymore on my Instagram. It all started with an Android phone.

What inspires you? And how does it influence your photography?
The places I’ve never been to yet I’m already in love with. I discover them through Instagram every day. It pushes me to work more and to achieve my goals in life.

Who are your favorite Instagramers?
@ownthelight posts the greatest portraits and I love his tones, @joshua_j_taylor & @rvnvn minimal and inspiring captions, @angelomendo & @capturedphotos post the coolest landscapes, @nikk_la & @msalisbu for street photography.

I’m all about the tones.

What do you dislike about Instagram?
It’s irresistible.

What is Instagram for you?
It connects people through photos. It is a modern portfolio for all the aspiring artists. It inspires you to go out and see the world. It teaches you that more than all the photos you post on it, it is how you live your life outside the screen and behind the camera that matters.

Kiko Guzman flows with Some Kind of Magic by Asch x Clara Benin

We are used to seeing online viral videos of random dancers moving smoothly with the music playing in the background, well we can't deny, for the most part it's really entertaining. But more than the dancing, it's the music that really elevates the stage and performance, hence a video worth 2-5 minutes of our time. Asch and Clara Benin takes advantage of this and incorporates it with the video of their collaboration track, Some Kind of Magic. With the help of dancer, Kiko Guzman, they create a silky video featuring a soulful routine in the tune of the track. The video displays Kiko Guzman's freestyle routine in an urban stage courtesy of various areas around Bonifacio Global City. Clara Benin's sultry singing melds perfectly with Asch's sound that brings focus to the track even when we zero in on Guzman. It also provides a subtle but very effective hype before Asch drops the electronic solo at around 1:48. Watch the video above, like any other, it's simply entertaining, and a little enchanting.

THE Clothing Cancel Death Capsule Collection

They say that age is just a number. Well, maybe. Or maybe it is a precursor to death, making it a factor to the product of fear. The dress that the future dons when we see him dancing beyond the horizon. Or maybe it is a tool that The Man has mastered to dictate the lives that we live. It's blackness the ink used to write the rules: before you die, reach this set of goals. Do some #ADULTING. Buy big boy toys. Else, you are nothing but a failure. From the rebellious souls over at THE Clothing, here's a flip of the middle finger. Presenting the Cancel Death Capsule Collection. Featuring two t-shirts and a pullover hoodie jacket, with graphics involving Peter Pan and the Death Angel. The hoodie jacket has a custom woven patch label and printings on the sleeves, the words "Cancel" and "Death" on the left and right, respectively. For the free spirit in you, because only one mandate matters: live young forever.

Purveyr Magazine at Hey Neighbor! in The Belle and Dragon

 Photos by Marvin Conanan

Though we are still in the process of creating the recap post for the Purveyr Magazine Launch Tour, we're going to give you a short preview of it through our encore event with The Belle and Dragon. It was a night of vinyl sets by The Diegos and Mulan. The night was started by Mulan with house and disco beats, keeping it chill and easy until he brings in a more uplifting vibe to dictate the night's mood. As midnight drew closer, with alcohol levels come just right at the middle of "new-found confidence" and "I've had enough", plus groovy tracks that blanket the whole space from stacks of records beside the DJs, it felt like we're in another era. Followed by The Diegos, the ambiance gets even more lively. They provide beats after beats of blues, soul, hiphop and RnB. Then as people danced, jello shots were brought out, as if it's a college party all-over again, though it feels more like music appreciation with a kick than alcohol overdose like in most college parties. It's truly a night of experience, a great moment to close out the Launch Tour. The Belle and Dragon promises the same pleasure every Thursday at their Hey Neighbor! nights. Check it out, we recommend it.
