Every society spawns few individuals who desire to break the mold. But the challenging course they choose is a tedious one, which further separates those who just bark from those who bite and conquer. If you relate to this, then better check out streetwear brand ESTD. The brand name is an acronym for the phrase "Easier said than done". They just released their maiden collection, filled with shirts that further reinforce their message. Leaning on typography and layout, they showed some love for the nonconformists and explained things to people who shunned the path less taken. Now available at Suez & Zapote, Makati City.

Mak Azores and Ez Abinal resigns from Slick Barbers Co.
at
14.1.16
We have recently heard the news about Slick Barbers Co. founders, Mak Azores and Ez Abinal, resigning from the group. This is monumental to the growing local barbering culture as it is to the group, in our opinion. So we reached out to Mak to talk about his decision of leave the pioneering barbering collective and Indio about the changes, if there are any, that will happen with Slick Barbers Co.
Firstly, we asked Mak Azores about his decision in leaving the group. More than anything else, he exclaims that it is for his future and his family's. But to really understand where he's coming from, here's how he explained to us his decision which he would also like for everyone to know.
"Slick Barbers Co. has jumpstarted all of our careers as barbers here in the Philippines. It has provided a tremendous amount of help for me, which I all owe to the brand, to my co-barbers and definitely to our patrons who has supported us since the very start. I, Ez and Indio started Slick Barbers Sessions. Indio started his barbering apprenticeship with us. Most of the time he would set up the Slick Barber Sessions for us, and also do some impromptu spoken word poetry on the side. Eventually when he was ready to cut hair, the three of us started the company. We ignited a movement that has always made SBCo. different from other barbershops. To cut the story short, that said unorthodox approach also has made it difficult for me to sustain or obtain financial stability. And with a baby coming with my long-term partner, Vogz Badiola, I could not just quit my barbering career to obtain that. So me and Ez has decided to pass our resignation with SBCo. to establish our own barbershop and hopefully achieve the stability that I need right now. We worked so hard for this, and even made a business proposal to receive enough funding for this new venture, our new brand and home, Heavyhands Barbershop."
As mentioned by Mak to us, Heavyhands Barbershop will focus on traditional cut and shave services with a good selection of men's grooming products including pomades. Other than that, they have established the new barbershop with a mission to promote the quality and uplift the dignity of the whole barbering culture in the Philippines. "We want the Filipino people to see that barbering is a profession and a growing culture, that it is not just a need or a service" expressed by Mak.
While for Indio, the remaining co-founder of Slick Barbers Co., he assures us that nothing will change with the premier barbering collective. Now that they have grew their barber lineup to six already namely, Kalbs, Simon, Skully, Radz, Ryan and Indio, plus an ever-developing and well-loved Yague barbershop, it's no surprise that SBCo. is left in good hands.
"We can't wait till we give them the barbershop they deserve little by little, one step at a time. Through that nakikilala din namin yung talagang mga taong nagiinvest ng trust and bond with us. (Through that we realize who are the people who really trust and bond with us.) Though thick and thin." expressed by Indio about their current state as a group. He also promised to us that Slick Barbers Co. will continue to strive to provide the same enthusiasm and passion for barbering and their community.
As exciting as the sprouting of this barbering community and culture, things like this make it even more amusing. And in events like this we believe that we also find growth, growth in the form of Mak Azores' and Ez Abinal's new venture - Heavyhands Barbershop, Slick Barber Co.'s flourishing following, team and home, and a progression in the whole of the local barbering community and culture.

KLTRD Alleycat-Trackstand-Skate Event Recap
at
13.1.16
Lifestyle brand, KLTRD are doing some great things in Bangkal, Makati City. The idea of celebrating the area where one is located or born has always become an inspiration for many, including lifestyle brands, particularly those who are immersed in the streetwear culture and its subcultures. However, it seems like that here in the country only a few resort to this mentality, a focus on the community and area where they are part of. So it is a little refreshing to see this new brand do just that, to pursue the things they love with the people that they co-exist with in an area that's rather not yet in the radar as a growing modern neighborhood. Nonethless, KLTRD believes that the community of Bangkal, Makati City is worth a look. That's why they organized Alleycat-Trackstand-Skate, a small event that lets the community converge and maybe spark a start of what can become of the neighborhood. KLTRD also partnered with various independent local brands to make the event possible, which happened December of 2015. It's surprising of how much the Bangkal community has to offer, you can check out the photos below taken by Elie Ocampo and Mong Feliciano to have a look of what happened in the event.
Fam "I am because We Are" T-Shirt
at
13.1.16
Lifestyle brand, Fam, from Laguna takes a new flip on the often-used Barbara Kruger artwork to come up with the "I am because We are" t-shirt. The design is another iteration of the "I shop therefore I am" piece. But instead of branding a person, what they wish to convey is an important universal label: being human. The phrase "I am because We are" is borrowed from Ubuntu, a humanistic philosophy that started in Southern Africa. This phrase sums up the essence of being human, about the interconnectedness of each person. With this in mind, one is expected to tap on the human kindness inside before taking on any action, because what that action will lead to, affects the whole world. It is now available at their shop in Los BaƱos, Laguna, but for online orders, contact the Fam facebook page for the details.

Felipe and Sons Opens Flagship Branch in Ortigas
at
11.1.16
With the new era of grooming already underway, men's grooming regime has changed significantly since, and is now taking on a new style. Cuts are becoming more complex and are now being paired with custom shirts, trousers and even three-piece suits. This has birthed establishments, like Felipe and Sons, that specifically cater to the needs of the modern gentleman. Felipe and Sons aims to "Revive Manila Swagger" by bringing together a barbershop and haberdasher under one roof. It started as a neighborhood barbershop in Salcedo with services no different from what the average barbershop offers such as cut and rinse, massage, and a hot towel shave, and a haberdashery with a team of tailors who will create custom clothing from a selection of fabrics.
With the success of its first branch in Makati comes their second and flagship branch in Ortigas. Felipe and Sons now takes on a much bigger space with two floors, which houses everything in their Makati space and more. The first floor is for the main reception, bar and waiting area where one can enjoy coffee, a glass of whiskey or ice-cold beer to go with conversations about pompadours and premium hair products, plus a loft for all the cuts and shaves, while the second floor is for the haberdashery, back office and a private barber room, where they plan to fly in barbers from different countries to do special cuts.

Purveyr Producer Project: Escapone
at
10.1.16
It took us quite a while before having the sequel to DJ Abdel Aziz' mix for the Purveyr Producer Project, but you know how people put it, it's better late than never. For the second mixtape, we worked with fresh upcoming talent, DJ Escapone. He channels a blend of the old and the new through this 30-minute mixtape, including beats and tracks from different genres like nu soul, RnB, hiphop, and more. Escapone brings forth a Sunday jams kind of vibe with this one, starting it off with a few Erykah Badu tracks, then some more from Frank Ocean, Freddie Joachim, Jennifer Lopez, Dr. Dre, Action Bronson, Curtismith, etc.
We are open for suggestions and applications for the Purveyr Producer Project. Email us at purveyr@gmail.com if you're interested. We're looking forward to hear from you.

Ninno - Third Culture Kid (Full Album)
at
10.1.16
Local emcee/producer Ninno ends 2015 by unleashing his debut album, Third Culture Kid. Ride the soundscapes that accompany the lyrical assault this hip hop artist brings to our music scene. With a range of topics spanning from kung-fu to religion, you better ready your ears and thoughts for a continuous stream of knowledge and opinions. Ninno minces his words with syllabication and syncopation in mind to make sure each track has the right flow. With years spent producing music, he surely curated well from his selection of instrumentals. Curtismith, CRWN, Somedaydream, and Icoy Rapadas also took part in this album.
